Here at the Old Dutch Cupboard, we carry many variations of chicken eggs – but did you know we occasionally have duck eggs, too? Duck eggs provide a unique eggs-perience that’s worth trying out! The first noticeable difference in a duck egg is that it is much bigger than a standard chicken egg (on par with our super jumbo chicken eggs!). This means there is a bigger volume of yolk and white inside. Duck eggs do tend to have much thicker shells, as well, but this can help to preserve the egg for a longer time. According to Modern Farmer, the whites of the eggs are more translucent than a chicken egg, and the yolks are much richer and packed with extra protein. They are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Some of these factors have to do with the duck’s diet as they tend to eat more bugs that are high in protein versus vegetation/grains. Overall, duck eggs are a nutritious, tasty treat! Stop by the Old Dutch Cupboard or give us a call to see if we have any in stock – we’re happy to help!
